Roseville City School District, a K-8 district in California, needed a better way to track and communicate student proficiency on learning standards. At the same time, they were navigating the sudden shift to remote learning, which required a platform that was easy for students and teachers to use while still providing powerful, real-time insights into student progress.
The Solution
Roseville City School District adopted Otus in 2018 to support standards-based grading and improve visibility into student learning. With Otus, they could assess student proficiency, administer standards-aligned assessments, and integrate third-party data in one place. When the pandemic hit, Otus became even more essential, allowing teachers, administrators, and families to stay connected to student learning in real time. The ability to centralize student data and provide transparency across all stakeholders made Otus a key part of their instructional strategy.
The Results
Since implementing Otus, Roseville has transformed its approach to student data. In the 2023-24 school year alone, they:
- Administered 1.3M+ assessments
- Assigned 94K+ lessons
- Averaged 30K assessments per week
Beyond classroom assessments, Otus helps the district consolidate data from multiple sources to provide a complete picture of student learning:
- California State Assessments: SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium), CAST (California Science Test), ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California), and CAA (California Alternate Assessment)
Other Key Measures: iReady reading and math, ESGI progress monitoring, learning behaviors, and more
With all this information in one place, educators can identify trends, track student growth, and make data-driven decisions at the classroom, school, and district levels.
What started as a way to enhance standards-based grading has evolved into an essential system for the district. Through every shift—remote, hybrid, and in-person—Otus has remained a trusted solution, ensuring student learning is always visible, measurable, and actionable.
