Today, Otus supports over 1 million learners across 200 districts by providing the tools and insights to monitor and improve student performance.
Meet Otus
Otus was designed by educators to simplify the way schools manage data, assessments, and instruction. We empower teachers, administrators, and families with the tools and insights they need to support every student’s success—all in one place.

Our Mission
Otus provides the tools and data educators, students, and families need to monitor and improve performance.

Our Vision
Ensure every educator and the school community has the insights they need to make a difference in students’ lives.
It all started in a middle school classroom

It all started in a middle school classroom

Back in 2010, two middle school teachers secured funding for 1:1 devices in their classroom, hoping to transform the way they personalized learning.

But instead of solving problems, the devices amplified the bigger issue—the lack of connection across the many programs they used.

It quickly became clear they needed one tool to unify everything. The problem? The tool didn’t exist yet.
That’s when the idea for Otus was born.

One of those teachers was Chris Hull, who co-founded Otus to solve this problem.
As Otus has grown, Chris has remained deeply committed to ensuring that the platform stays true to its purpose: helping educators, students, and families succeed.
Today, Otus supports over 1 million learners across 200 districts by providing the tools and insights to monitor and improve student performance.
Meet Chris Hull
Co-Founder and President of Otus
As a former educator, Chris understands the challenges and rewards of teaching firsthand— an experience that continues to inspire his work at Otus.
His journey from the classroom to founding Otus was driven by a passion for education and a desire to make a meaningful difference.
Chris believes that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed —as both a founder and a parent, this mission hits close to home. His own children’s school district uses Otus, giving him a unique perspective as both a creator and user of the platform.
This dual role reinforces his commitment to ensuring Otus continues to provide the tools educators and families need to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives.

Hear from K-12 Schools Using Otus
Illinois
“We had a lot of teachers using different platforms and parents were getting confused. Utilizing Otus helped us to really streamline that so that there was one single system to help their student navigate learning.”
Lexi Robinson
Instructional Technology Coordinator
North Shore School District 112 (IL)
“What we love about Otus is we’re not the ones spending time gathering and organizing the data. It’s in there; we just pull it up and look at it. Now, we’re truly focused on instruction – which is what teachers and instructional coaches should be doing.”
Sheri Peacock
Associate Superintendent of Student Achievement
East Moline School District 37 (IL)
"The first question is, ‘Where are we going?’ So you're looking at your standards and really understanding what the standards are, and then how are you assessing those standards, you know, where are we at now. And I would say we really are leaning into our platform, which is Otus, around, putting those assessments in this platform and really kind of tagging as they create an assessment."
Dr. Susan Ejma
Director of Teaching and Learning
Maercker School District 60
“By bringing Otus in, that's been an opportunity for us to take the weight and responsibility off our school psychs or administrators and really give them the chance to focus on the actual data and what it says, helping to prepare for data team meetings. Now that we've continued to roll that out and broaden the exposure that staff within our district have to it [Otus], it's making data more readily available for their decisions and allowing them to explore some of their curiosities and wonderings about individual students, their class, or their grade level.”
Patrick Dawson
Director of Innovation, Teaching & Learning
Winnetka Public School District 36
Wisconsin
“I wanted to find a tool that could ground the data, but, more importantly, create something that’s user-friendly for teachers and students. Our students can really own their metrics and their journey, and see the relationship between goal-setting and the progress that they’ve made. With Otus, you’re going to see a more invested student, and they’re going to understand the relevance. It’s one of the best data tools to support Portrait of a Graduate.”
Scott Carr
College and Career Readiness Consultant
CESA 7 (WI)
“I’ve seen other programs fail because the teachers or administrators don’t feel like they’re supported. Our staff is eager to learn about Otus because they know they’re going to get support when they have questions. And it’s so user-friendly. This is what stands out from any of the competitors that I’ve ever used – it’s just that responsiveness. They understand, because it’s made by teachers, that teachers are pulled in so many different directions.”
Dr. Vicki King
Superintendent
Salem School District (WI)
“I have teachers that have been teaching 10, 20, almost 30 years, and they’re actually identifying this as one of their more valuable years, and saying, ‘I feel like I’m actually teaching students, gauging their learning, and seeing those growth points.’ And that’s something I think Otus does an amazing job with, that individual growth and progress, monitoring, tracking, and being able to share that with parents and staff.”
Don Norwick
Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction
Wilmot Union High School
California
“With just a few clicks on Otus, I can get the full picture of every student. It’s data that I can truly use instead of perusing through charts that have been formed a week after the fact. The immediate nature of the actionable data is what makes it even more powerful.”
Trevor Johnson
Second-Grade Teacher and Technology Advisor
Santa Rosa Academy (CA)
“I love the simplicity of Otus! From the beginning, Otus stood out as being clean and very easy to navigate compared to our last system and other systems we were piloting. The fact that we could collaborate and share out resources on one platform made things so much easier.”
Lisa Wardle
Hemet Unified School District (CA)
Kentucky
“What we love about Otus is we can create any type of assessment — formative, summative, rubric. I can also create any type of question. We had a seventh-grade ELA assessment where the learning standard was to match a type of media to an article. I was able to upload a podcast in Otus and add a nonfiction article that our students were able to toggle between.”
Vivian May
Secondary Instructional Coach
Marion Country Schools (KY)
“Because the data in Otus is so accessible, we can pull it up in seconds, as opposed to having to dig through manual sources and compile it ourselves, which would take hours. We can easily see where our kids are and delve in to talk about next steps.”
Lee Anna VanDyke
Secondary Instructional Coach
Marion County Knight Academy (KY)
Massachusetts
“We have a very unique competency-based system for assessment – a mash-up of competency, standards, mastery, and traditional. It was very difficult to find a tool and gradebook to support how we do things, and Otus filled every need we had.”
Camp
Head of Teaching and Learning
New England Innovation Academy (MA)
North Carolina
“We really needed a data system that was different from what our Student Information System would provide – a way to look at students more holistically including their past and present data. I started using the plans in Otus last year and this works really well for academic tracking. This year, I’ve taken it to my entire intervention team.”
Jessica Conn
MTSS Coordinator
Maureen Joy Charter School (NC)
Georgia
"We've never had a platform that encompasses everything—from testing to data, progress monitoring, and MTSS—all in one place, with a complete student profile. With our previous platform, teacher engagement dropped to just 10%, so we knew we needed a solution that would reengage teachers and make student data easy to access and use."
Millie Boykin
Director of School Improvement
Bulloch County Schools (GA)
“Instead of going through multiple reports to determine a student’s needs and gaps, it will all be right there for us. The ability to track progress for individual students and customize learning plans directly within Otus will save time when addressing specific student needs, especially for those requiring additional support.”
Jennifer Hutchens
Brooklet Elementary School
MTSS Coordinator (GA)
Colorado
“Our previous platform was antiquated and far from intuitive. When we moved away from it, we tried to use our Student Information System to create student plans, but that alone wasn’t enough. We ended up relying on Google Drive and manually pulling third-party data from various websites to piece together data snapshots. It was very much a hodgepodge. This was a huge driver for us in adopting Otus—we needed a solution that could produce reports and capture all that data in one place.”
Becky Langlois
Executive Director of Assessment and Innovation
Weld County School District Re-3J (CO)
Nebraska
“We were looking for a place to house all the data district-wide. We’re a smaller district, but still have a ton of data. So to have that solid, concise, one-place spot for all of our data was what we were looking for.”
Megan Glazebrook
Elementary Instructional Coach
Conestoga Public Schools (NE)
“Prior to Otus, everything was kind of all over the place in different platforms, and we just weren’t using data as much as we needed to. We felt like having a location for all of that would help the teachers to use it more.”
Jodi Fierstein
Jodi Fierstein, Elementary Principal
Superior Public Schools(NE)
“The main thing that drove us toward Otus was its ease of use. Not only does it check all the boxes as far as getting the data in one spot, but it is simple to use. It has a great interface, and you can tell it was built by teachers, for teachers.”
Matt Moore
Director of Technology
Papillion La Vista Community Schools
“One of the nice things about Otus is that we can put our data in, and Otus helps us customize it so it looks the way we want it to look. And that has been really helpful because, as principals or teachers or groups come to me with specific questions, I always say, ‘Well, what question are you trying to answer?’ And then we go to Otus. And if we can’t answer the question with the data there, then I call our specialist at Otus, and she can help us figure it out.”
Angie Wright
Director of Assessment
Papillon La Vista Community Schools
Idaho
"Otus has made my 5 years of teaching more organized and cohesive."
Tyler Avey
Social Studies Teacher
Nampa School District (ID)
“The OCE program has been wonderful. It is straightforward and easy to follow. I have learned so many useful tips and tricks. Creating lessons and assessments on the fly has never been so easy.”
Cassandra Coleman
FIRST GRADE TEACHER, CHALLIS JOINT DISTRICT, ID
Arkansas
“I like that all my data is in one place and that it links student learning needs to Khan Academy.”
Taylor Lewis
7th Grade Math Teacher
Gravette School District (AR)
Michigan
"We have had amazing support and have been so impressed with just the responsiveness of everybody in Otus, whether that's via email, whether that's the in-app chat, or just even jumping on a quick Zoom to problem solve something."
Ashley Troy
Director of Teaching & Learning
Northwest Education Services
Connecticut
“While there was an expectation that schools were analyzing data and teachers were adjusting instruction based on that data, it was very cumbersome. Some schools had created various spreadsheets, some were doing things by hand. Nothing was standardized. It wasn't possible for school leaders to have access to classroom-level data or for district leaders to have access to school-level data. So we were looking for a solution that provided that visibility and also really made the analysis much easier for our educators. Our educators had to go to a lot of different places to get what's housed in Otus now.”
Kristin Schmitz
Director of School Improvement
Norwalk Public Schools
Florida
“The thing that we love about Otus is that it provides us with the opportunity to put all of our resources into one place – a one-stop shop. We can take all of our data, put it into Otus."
Chris Combass
Director of Teaching & Learning
Hamilton County Schools
New Hampshire

"Teachers have told me, ‘For the first time ever, I finally understand why I’m teaching what I’m teaching—because it’s tied to a standard.’ There was real buy-in on what we’re going to teach and how we will measure that.”
Hether Shulman
Assistant Principal
Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative School District
