Hemet Unified School District

Hemet USD serves 21,335 students across 29 schools in Southern California. Now in its sixth year with Otus, the district uses the platform to create common assessments, analyze growth, and inform standards-based instruction across all grade levels.

The Challenge

Before Otus, Hemet educators struggled with siloed systems and inconsistent access to student data. Teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators wanted to align assessments with standards, track growth over time, and use data to guide PLCs. But doing so across multiple tools made it difficult to take a cohesive, districtwide approach.

The Solution

With Otus, Hemet centralized key data sources, including California assessments like CAASPP and ELPAC, as well as additional measures such as MAP Growth and Acadience. In addition to unifying district-wide data, Hemet also leverages Otus at the classroom level to support daily instruction. Educators now design and score pre- and post-assessments within Otus, using the platform to:

  • Align assessments to state standards
  • Identify mastered vs emerging skills
  • Inform small-group instruction and Tier 2 supports
  • Guide collaborative PLC discussions
  • Create personalized lessons based on real-time performance

The district uses both points and standards-based views to monitor student progress, offering flexibility to meet instructional goals at all levels. Scores can also be passed back to Aeries, their SIS, saving teachers time and improving data visibility.

The Results

Since partnering with Otus, Hemet USD has:

  • Supported 21,335 students with real-time data and insights
  • Completed 181,078 assessments in the 2024-25 school year
  • Created consistent common assessments across grade levels
  • Empowered PLCs to make data-driven decisions using clear visuals

large-Hamet-Case-ImgOtus has become a vital part of Hemet’s instructional strategy, helping educators answer the big questions: Who needs support? What skills need reteaching? Where is enrichment needed?

"We love data, and that’s what helps us see where students need support and how to provide teachers with strategies. The thing we love about Otus is that everything we need is right there—it helps us take a step back and really focus instruction where it's needed most." - Lisa Wardle, Instructional Coach
