“We have a very unique competency-based system for assessment – a mash-up of competency, standards, mastery, and traditional. It was very difficult to find a tool and gradebook to support how we do things, and Otus filled every need we had.”
Camp
Head of Teaching and Learning
New England Innovation Academy
“From an equity standpoint, I'm able to drill down and talk with administrators about any patterns, like, if there are higher percentages of special education students or students with low income who are also chronically absent. That's easy to look at within the Otus dashboard.”
Jody O'Brien
Assistant Superintendent of Student Services & Equity

Kentucky is moving beyond traditional letter grades with Portrait of a Learner, a statewide shift in which more than 140 districts are redefining success through real-world skills like critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and resilience. This new approach replaces one-off tests with authentic “defenses of learning” — student-led presentations, projects, and portfolios evaluated by real audiences — helping prepare every graduate for life, work, and civic engagement.
Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS)
Marshall County Schools (KY) adopted Otus in 2019 to give teachers real-time visibility into student progress — streamlining assessment, grading, and data tracking across all 11+ schools. Since then, the district has used Otus to administer nearly half a million assessments in 2024–25, deliver over 65,000 lessons, and consolidate multiple data sources (like Renaissance Star, state summative assessments, ACT/AP, and more) — transforming how educators monitor, understand, and act on student learning across grade levels.

“PLCs get back together the next Monday and compare the data… ‘Oh my gosh, you’re ten to twenty points higher than me. How did you do that?’ Our system really revolves around teachers learning from teachers.”

“Our previous platform was antiquated and far from intuitive. When we moved away from it, we tried to use our Student Information System to create student plans, but that alone wasn’t enough. We ended up relying on Google Drive and manually pulling third-party data from various websites to piece together data snapshots. It was very much a hodgepodge. This was a huge driver for us in adopting Otus—we needed a solution that could produce reports and capture all that data in one place.”
Becky Langlois
Executive Director of Assessment and Innovation
Weld County School District Re-3J
"We needed to implement a robust data system behind the scenes so students’ work could go into multiple buckets that would make sense based on the standards they were expected to learn in Colorado and could translate to the local educators at their families’ next duty assignment."

"We love data, and that’s what helps us see where students need support and how to provide teachers with strategies. The thing we love about Otus is that everything we need is right there—it helps us take a step back and really focus instruction where it's needed most."

“I've seen other programs fail because the teachers or administrators don't feel like they're supported. Our staff is eager to learn about Otus because they know they're going to get support when they have questions. And it’s so user-friendly. This is what stands out from any of the competitors that I've ever used – it's just that responsiveness. They understand, because it's made by teachers, that teachers are pulled in so many different directions.”
Dr. Vicki King
Superintendent
Salem School District
"I have teachers that have been teaching 10, 20, almost 30 years, and they're actually identifying this as one of their more valuable years, and saying, 'I feel like I'm actually teaching students, gauging their learning, and seeing those growth points.’ And that's something I think Otus does an amazing job with, that individual growth and progress, monitoring, tracking, and being able to share that with parents and staff."

“You look at which kids did not do well on that assessment, that quiz, or that one simple question. Those are the kids that we're pulling back to a table and working with one-on-one, while the other kids are working independently. So we're targeting the students struggling the most. Another main reason people are using Otus right now is to help identify those students quickly.”
Lisa Kosin
7th Grade Math Teacher
Westmont CUSD 201
"The data is organized into one place, and then there's multiple different ways that we can filter and use that data to help us inform what our kiddos need."

"We utilized [our previous] platform for about 10 years. Our teachers started getting frustrated, and it was not as user-friendly as Otus, so we were losing teacher usability pretty quickly. By the end of last year (2023), before we moved on, we only had about 10% of our teachers utilizing that platform. So we knew that we needed to find something that was more user-friendly for our teachers, more accessible so that they would get back on board and look at student data."
Millie Boykin
Director of School Improvement
Bulloch County Schools
“I think Otus did a lot more than what our administrators even thought was possible. I think that they're excited because there's data all in the same place, but also there were features that we now need that we didn't know we needed before.”
Erin Franks
K-5 Instructional Technology Specialist
Wayne County Schools
“I love that teachers are able to track a student’s progress over time, and we are able to look at data as a team to make informed decisions about students’ interventions.”
Jennifer Hutchens
MTSS Coordinator
Brooklet Elementary School
What K-12 Leaders Are Saying About Otus
"We've never had a platform that encompasses everything—from testing to data, progress monitoring, and MTSS—all in one place, with a complete student profile. With our previous platform, teacher engagement dropped to just 10%, so we knew we needed a solution that would reengage teachers and make student data easy to access and use."
Millie Boykin
Director of School Improvement
Bulloch County Schools (GA)
“We really needed a data system that was different from what our Student Information System would provide – a way to look at students more holistically including their past and present data. I started using the plans in Otus last year and this works really well for academic tracking. This year, I’ve taken it to my entire intervention team.”
Jessica Conn
MTSS Coordinator
Maureen Joy Charter School (NC)
“We have a very unique competency-based system for assessment – a mash-up of competency, standards, mastery, and traditional. It was very difficult to find a tool and gradebook to support how we do things, and Otus filled every need we had.”
Camp
Head of Teaching and Learning
New England Innovation Academy (MA)
“What we love about Otus is we can create any type of assessment — formative, summative, rubric. I can also create any type of question. We had a seventh-grade ELA assessment where the learning standard was to match a type of media to an article. I was able to upload a podcast in Otus and add a nonfiction article that our students were able to toggle between.”
Vivian May
Secondary Instructional Coach
Marion Country Schools (KY)
“I love the simplicity of Otus! From the beginning, Otus stood out as being clean and very easy to navigate compared to our last system and other systems we were piloting. The fact that we could collaborate and share out resources on one platform made things so much easier.”
Lisa Wardle
Hemet Unified School District (CA)
“With just a few clicks on Otus, I can get the full picture of every student. It’s data that I can truly use instead of perusing through charts that have been formed a week after the fact. The immediate nature of the actionable data is what makes it even more powerful.”
Trevor Johnson
Second-Grade Teacher and Technology Advisor
Santa Rosa Academy (CA)
“I wanted to find a tool that could ground the data, but, more importantly, create something that’s user-friendly for teachers and students. Our students can really own their metrics and their journey, and see the relationship between goal-setting and the progress that they’ve made. With Otus, you’re going to see a more invested student, and they’re going to understand the relevance. It’s one of the best data tools to support Portrait of a Graduate.”
Scott Carr
College and Career Readiness Consultant
CESA 2 (WI)
“We had a lot of teachers using different platforms and parents were getting confused. Utilizing Otus helped us to really streamline that so that there was one single system to help their student navigate learning.”
Lexi Robinson
Instructional Technology Coordinator
North Shore School District 112 (IL)
